Role Description
The Writer-Reporter is supervised by the Weekend Editor and is responsible for pitching, reporting and writing stories across platforms. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and researcher, reporter and interviewer with sound news judgment and an enthusiastic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment. They will be expected to write daily under tight deadlines and assist in developing sources and supporting long-term reporting initiatives. They will also be expected to cover breaking news and events. The Writer-Reporter is a collaborative team player with strong knowledge of the digital landscape, including SEO, Discover and analytics. This role has a regular weekend schedule of Thursday to Monday and hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm EST.
Writing stories on deadline across platforms (60%)
Reporting stories and conducting interviews (20%)
Pitching content (10%)
Taking on and organizing special content projects as needed, and other duties as assigned (10%)
Qualifications
BA/BS degree, preferably in journalism or communications, related field or equivalent training and/or experience
Minimum 2 years experience writing for a high volume, digital news operation
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proven ability to work independently
Strong writing and research skills and impeccable journalistic standards
Ability to respond quickly to breaking news
Strong reporting and interviewing skills and the ability to cultivate new sources
