We're seeking a passionate and bilingual Newcomer Classroom Assistant - Dari/Pashto to join our team in Thornton, CO. As a crucial member of our educational community, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of newcomer students and their families. About the Role As a Newcomer Classroom Assistant - Dari/Pashto, you'll collaborate with classroom teachers to provide native language support for newcomer students in core classrooms. Your goal will be to ensure comprehension of academic content and assist with the implementation of the teacher's instruction plan. You'll serve as a vital link between the school, students, and families, providing supplemental interpreting and translation services. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide native language support and instructional assistance in all subject areas for newcomer students. Assist teachers in preparing materials, administering tests, and completing paperwork and documentation as needed. Implement teacher instruction plans and assist students with classroom activities. Perform tutoring, both individually and with small groups, to ensure comprehension of academic content. Serve as a link between the school and family, providing supplemental interpreting and translation services for multilingual students and families. Encourage classroom teachers to be aware of and sensitive to cultural differences of students. Assist with document, phone, and meeting translation for staff, students, and/or families. Help newcomer students build a positive self-image and view their culture and themselves with pride. Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including lunchroom/playground duty. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Proficiency in English and Dari/Pashto (or other languages as needed). No experience required, but experience working with school-age children is preferred. Criminal background check required for hire. Preferred Qualifications: First Aid certification. Experience in education or a related field.
