Structural & Miscellaneous Steel Estimator / Project Assistant (Full-Time – Steady Weekly Pay) – Contract to Hire

We’re a construction company specializing in structural and ornamental steel, looking for a sharp, reliable, and organized assistant to work directly with the owner. This isn’t a background position — you’ll be in constant communication throughout the day, reviewing what was done yesterday, what needs attention today, and what’s coming next.The goal: keep projects moving, stay organized, and stay ahead of the chaos. You’ll focus on two main areas: 1️⃣ NEW OPPORTUNITIES (ESTIMATING) – Reviewing drawings, performing take-offs, and helping prepare quotes for upcoming projects. 2️⃣ WAREHOUSE PROJECTS (PROJECT MANAGEMENT) – Assisting with active jobs, tracking tasks, organizing files, and following up on open items. This role is about production, organization, and communication — helping manage both the projects we’re pursuing and the ones already underway.COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE Trial Period – $3.00/hr (First 2–4 Weeks, Paid):This short trial phase lets us see your consistency, communication, and reliability in real time. It’s not about how fast you work — it’s about how dependable you are. After Evaluation – $4.00–$4.50/hr (Based on Performance): Once the trial phase is complete and you’ve proven reliability, your rate increases. The stronger your performance, the faster you grow. Steady Weekly Pay – 40 Hours Every Week: You’ll have consistent work every week, not a few hours here and there.This is steady, structured, and long-term — a real opportunity to have something consistent in the books while still keeping your other projects. Manual Time – We Trust You: No screen tracker. We allow manual time because we understand you might have other clients — and that’s fine. As long as you keep clear communication and get your tasks done, we’re good. COMMISSION BONUSES – GET PAID WHEN WE WIN JOBS On top of your steady weekly pay, we also reward performance. For large commercial or warehouse projects that you help estimate or manage — if we get awarded because of your efforts — you get paid a commission.Average bonuses range between $20–$50 per project, and the more detailed and involved you are, the more you’ll earn. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES NEW OPPORTUNITIES (Estimating) • Review and mark up structural steel drawings • Perform take-offs (weights, quantities, materials) • Prepare scopes of work and assist with pricing • Create simple 3D visuals/renderings when needed (preferred) • Communicate updates, questions, and next steps directly with ownership WAREHOUSE PROJECTS (Project Management Support) • Assist in managing active warehouse and commercial jobs • Keep Monday.com boards up to date • Organize files, drawings, and correspondence in Dropbox • Draft coordination emails in Outlook • Communicate directly with ownership and occasionally with clients • Provide daily updates on progress and follow-bolthires SYSTEMS & TOOLS • Monday.com – Task & project tracking • ChatGPT – Drafting, writing, and communication support • Outlook – Email management & formatting • Dropbox – File organization • Take-Off Software – Steel estimating • 3D Rendering Tools (Preferred) – Visuals for ornamental & concept work ⚙️ REQUIREMENTS • Strong understanding of structural steel drawings • Excellent English (written & spoken) — communication is everything • Available during 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM EST (New York) • Experience with Monday.com, Outlook, and Dropbox • Comfortable using ChatGPT or AI tools for drafting and organization • Reliable internet and ability to join Zoom calls when needed Tell me why we should hire you.What makes you stand out?
