WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for a hands-on VP of Software Engineering to build and scale a high-performing engineering organization that ships reliable SaaS and mobile products with speed and consistency. This leader owns delivery outcomes across the development lifecycle, including execution, quality, operational readiness, and engineering standards, in close partnership with Product, QA, Security, and customer-facing teams.

The architecture direction is led by the VP of Architecture. In this role, you partner closely with the VP of Architecture to review designs, validate tradeoffs, ensure implement ability, and keep delivery aligned with platform direction. You are hands-on when it matters, staying close to technical decisions, coaching engineering leaders, and serving as an escalation point for complex delivery and production issues.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

Delivery Leadership and Execution
• Own delivery outcomes for SaaS and mobile, including release predictability, quality, reliability, and customer impact
• Lead and develop global teams across time zones, including technical leads and senior engineers
• Drive planning discipline, delivery cadence, and effective execution across multiple concurrent initiatives
• Partner with Product and QA on scope, milestones, risk, readiness criteria, and post-release follow-through

Partnership with VP of Architecture
• Partner with the VP of Architecture to review solution designs for performance, scalability, security, maintainability, and delivery risk
• Ensure architectural decisions are translated into clear engineering plans, milestones, and implementation sequences
• Identify cross-team dependencies and execution bottlenecks early, and drive alignment on interfaces and integration approach
• Provide delivery-informed feedback on proposed standards, shared services, and platform changes

Engineering Standards and Quality
• Raise standards for coding practices, branching, code review, testing strategy, documentation, and operational readiness
• Drive adoption of engineering practices that reduce rework and prevent regressions across frontend, backend, and mobile
• Ensure delivered solutions meet technical, functional, and non-functional requirements

AI-Assisted Engineering and Agentic Workflows
• Put practical, safe AI-assisted development into daily work to improve throughput and reduce rework
• Use tools such as Windsurf and advanced models such as Claude Opus to accelerate implementation, refactorings, and test creation
• Improve review quality with automated checks for risky changes, security issues, and regression likelihood
• Establish usage rules that protect code and customer data, with human approval gates and auditable practices

WHAT DO YOU NEED?
• A bachelor’s degree in software engineering or an equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
• 15+ years of software development experience as a hands-on lead/manager/Architect and a track record of shipping software on time, solid understanding of design patterns, data structures, test-driven development, backend systems, infrastructure, databases, and APIs, experience with best practices for the full software development life cycle, such as coding standards, code reviews, source code control management, building processes, testing, and operations.
• 10+ years of experience in architecture, design, and development of large-scale, durable, and reliable full-stack SaaS applications and mobile applications in a cloud environment.
• 7+ years of experience building and leading strong engineering teams in remote and multi-time-zone environments.
• 5+ years of experience in relational data modeling and SQL/RDBMS.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment utilizing the efficiencies of an Agile and iterative Fast mentality.
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills across distributed teams.
• Experience in clinical research or Healthcare tech is strongly preferred.
• Experience in HIPAA/HITECH/HITRUST/PHI/PII and PCI DSS working environment

WHAT SETS YOU APART?
• In addition to the above, be a self-starter, self-motivated, proactive, and solution-oriented individual who creates methods for delivering solutions & establishes best practices.
• Familiarity with security benchmarks such as OWASP, PCI-DSS, CIS, SOC2, FedRAMP, etc.
• Strong knowledge of PHP, Python, React, and MVC design patterns.
• Comfortable multi-tasking and working as part of a global team, as well as working independently and taking ownership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and in a concise manner to a variety of audiences.
