Vice President - Debt Originations
Macdonald & Company is proud to partner with a multifamily-focused real estate credit platform with ambitious plans to double its AUM over the next three years. As part of this growth strategy, the firm is expanding into California and the Pacific Northwest and is seeking to appoint a Vice President of Originations to lead the platform’s expansion across the West Coast.
About the Role
The Vice President, Debt Originations will be responsible for sourcing and executing new lending opportunities across California and the Pacific Northwest. The role will primarily focus on construction loans, bridge lending, and some permanent financing. The individual will work closely with the investment and credit teams through the underwriting and closing process, while also maintaining ongoing borrower and partner relationships.
Key Responsibilities
• Originate new debt opportunities across California and the Pacific Northwest, with a primary focus on construction and bridge loans, along with select permanent financing opportunities.
• Develop and manage a robust deal pipeline through relationships with developers, sponsors, mortgage bankers, and other intermediaries.
• Serve as the primary relationship manager for borrowers and referral partners, fostering long-term sponsor coverage and repeat business.
• Lead transactions from initial screening through closing, including structuring terms and pricing, coordinating diligence materials, managing third-party vendors (appraisal, engineering, environmental, legal, title, and insurance), and partnering with internal underwriting and credit teams to advance deals efficiently.
• Prepare and present investment memoranda and deal recommendations to internal committees, clearly articulating risk considerations, mitigants, and return profiles.
• Monitor market conditions, competitive dynamics, and sponsor activity to inform lending strategy and pricing discipline.
• Support portfolio management activities as needed by maintaining borrower relationships and assisting with loan modifications, extensions, and payoffs.
• Represent the platform at industry events and contribute to the firm’s brand presence across target markets.
