Tax Preparer Job Description

Next Step Enterprises is a rapidly growing Tax, Bookkeeping, Payroll, and Advisory firm based out of Austin Texas. We have grown beyond our ability to handle all of our clients and are looking for an ambitious professional to help in our tax division through the busy seasons.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepare and Review tax returns as an expert provide guidance to beginner/intermediate tax staff.
• Advanced experience preparing corporate, partnership, and individual income tax returns.
• Tax return, workpaper, and financial report preparation of varying complexity
• Continue to develop skills with the use of tax research/planning software, perform tax research, and tax planning/projection assignments as requested or as determined to meet client needs.
• Work directly with clients to request information, provide information, and answer questions.
• Initiate solutions to problems and continue to develop technical expertise to improve professional judgment.
• Manage scope and materiality of engagements at all levels.
• Follow regulations and professional ethics of the AICPA and the State Society.
• Reviews financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
• Develop and implement strategic tax planning.
• Interact closely with clients to provide expert-level tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise.
• Research advanced tax issues and provide guidance to clients.
• Develop and maintain professional rapport with clients.
• Adhere to control procedures and processes over all aspects of the tax process.
• Mentor, train, and develop beginner/intermediate staff members and provide them with leadership and professional guidance.
• Maintain business relationships with existing clients and develop new relationships with potential clients to help grow the firm's clientele base and develop additional opportunities for the firm.
• Utilize project management and accounting best practices.

• Strong working knowledge of applicable software programs to produce finished products; Intuit and ProSeries competencies strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
• Two-to-Five (2-5) years of applicable experience in individual income tax planning and compliance.
• Must have understanding of and ability to complete/execute tax forms 1040, Schedule C, and 1120-S
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel required).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strict adherence to professional ethics.
• Ability to successfully contribute to the success of a strategic business unit of the firm.
• Extended hours required during certain times of the year.
