Job Overview
We invite you to consider joining our esteemed underwriting team as a Non-QM Underwriter I. This pivotal role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to analyze mortgage files meticulously. You will play an essential role in assessing applicants' professional and credit backgrounds while evaluating their financial obligations and assets to facilitate sound lending decisions.
Key Responsibilities
ย Perform comprehensive manual evaluations of mortgage loan files to ensure adherence to company and investor standards, thereby promoting the salability of finalized loans.
ย Assess loan risk and solicit supplementary documentation as needed to make prudent underwriting decisions.
ย Review conditions of resubmitted loans, determining eligibility through the approval or rejection process while ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.
ย Calculate borrower income accurately to assess repayment capability for mortgage commitments.
ย Maintain accuracy in all information processed, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
ย Uphold service level agreements and turnaround time expectations.
ย Address audits and post-closing inquiries in a timely manner.
ย Stay informed on Non-QM, TPO, and/or NDC guidelines and policies.
ย Request exceptions and scenarios as necessary for thorough evaluation.
ย Submit initial files and required conditions to investors, consistently monitoring their status until completion.
ย Offer mentorship to operations staff on best underwriting practices and accuracy in calculations.
ย Fulfill other related responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills
ย Strong mathematical proficiency and critical thinking abilities.
ย Expertise in financial analysis with a capability to interpret complex corporate tax returns.
ย Exceptional communication skills.
ย Adaptability to evolving technology.
ย Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications
ย A minimum of 5 years' experience in underwriting; prior Non-QM underwriting experience is preferred.
ย A Bachelor's degree is highly regarded.
