Position Overview The Remote Hybrid Elementary Music & Band Teacher will design and deliver engaging, standards‑aligned music instruction for students in grades K‑8 during the 2023/2024 school year. This full‑time role reports directly to the school principal and collaborates closely with faculty, parents, and community partners. Key Responsibilities Curriculum Design & Delivery Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive music curriculum that aligns with AZCCRS, BEST Professional Domains, and SUSD’s instructional goals. Plan and execute daily lessons that incorporate singing, keyboard, recorder, guitar, and movement activities, adapting instruction for diverse skill levels. Integrate music concepts across other subject areas, collaborating with classroom teachers to reinforce interdisciplinary learning. Design and lead ensemble rehearsals, band performances, and solo opportunities that showcase student progress both within and beyond the school day. Instructional Leadership & Collaboration Coordinate with fellow teachers to synchronize music instruction with schoolwide initiatives, ensuring a cohesive educational experience. Serve as a resource for colleagues, offering expertise on incorporating musical elements into lesson plans, assessments, and special projects. Communicate regularly with parents and community stakeholders, providing updates on student achievements, upcoming performances, and volunteer opportunities. Assessment & Reporting Utilize formative and summative assessment tools to measure student growth in musical proficiency, creativity, and collaborative skills. Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance outcomes, and curriculum adjustments, submitting lesson plans and progress reports to the principal as required. Analyze assessment data to identify trends, adapt instructional strategies, and recommend curriculum enhancements to district leaders. Program Management & Advocacy Oversee inventory, maintenance, and proper storage of all musical instruments, sheet music, and technology equipment. Organize field trips, guest artist workshops, and community performances that enrich the music program and broaden student experiences. Plan and execute evening or weekend events, including concerts, talent shows, and school festivals, fostering school pride and community involvement. Professional Growth & Compliance Stay current with best practices in music education, AZCCRS updates, and emerging technologies that support remote and hybrid instruction. Participate in district‑wide professional development sessions, share insights with peers, and contribute to the continuous improvement of SUSD’s music curriculum. Adhere to all district policies, safety protocols, and legal requirements, including maintaining a valid Arizona teaching certificate and IVP Clearance Card. Essential Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Certification: Valid Arizona Reciprocal, Provisional, or Standard Elementary K‑8 teaching certificate with a Music endorsement. Experience: Demonstrated ability to teach elementary music, including vocal instruction, keyboard/recorder/guitar proficiency, and conducting small ensembles. Knowledge: Familiarity with AZCCRS, BEST Framework, and effective strategies for differentiated instruction in a music classroom. Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management abilities; adept at building positive relationships with students, families, and staff. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 lb, perform frequent standing, bending, and repetitive motions associated with instrument handling.
