[Remote] Crop Underwriter

They are seeking a detail-oriented Crop Insurance Underwriter to support agents and internal teams throughout the policy lifecycle, ensuring accurate and efficient delivery of crop insurance products with exceptional customer service.ResponsibilitiesLearn, apply, and maintain knowledge of RMA regulations and established deadlines, including sales closing, acreage reporting, and production reporting, with appropriate training and resources providedAccurately enter, review, and audit policy information in underwriting systems for assigned territories, products, and agenciesDevelop and maintain working knowledge of crop types and insurance plans within assigned regionsBuild and sustain collaborative, professional relationships with assigned agents through clear communication and mutual accountabilityProvide training, guidance, and problem‑resolution support to agents and insureds in a respectful and service‑oriented mannerCollaborate cross‑functionally with partners in sales, claims, accounting, and technology to deliver consistent and high‑quality serviceContribute to underwriting production goals, including policy volume and premium targets, in alignment with team objectivesMaintain accurate and complete documentation to support audit readiness and regulatory complianceIdentify and resolve internal and FCIC error listings accurately and in alignment with established timelines and proceduresOrganize and maintain policy files in accordance with documented processing guidelinesSupport managers and team initiatives by contributing to special projects or assignments as business needs evolveSkillsHigh school diploma or GED requiredOne to three years of relevant experience in underwriting, insurance processing, agriculture, customer service, or a related fieldDemonstrated ability to work accurately with detailed information and maintain organized recordsEffective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and respectful mannerWorking proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (including Excel, Outlook, and Word) and the ability to learn underwriting or related systemsAbility to present information and engage with groups in a professional and inclusive mannerCommitment to delivering a positive customer experience, with a thoughtful and solution-oriented approach to problem solvingAbility to collaborate effectively as part of a team, demonstrate adaptability, and engage in ongoing learningComfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment, with appropriate guidance and supportValues collaboration, respect, and shared accountability within a team-based workplaceAn associate or bachelor's degree is a plusPrior crop insurance experience is helpful but not required; training and support are providedBenefitsFull Suite of Medical BenefitsLong Term Financial Incentives – STOCK!401k with 3.5% Automatic Fully Vested Employer ContributionsCompetitive PTO + Holiday ProgramLifestyle Spending AccountProfessional Development AssistanceCareer Exploration OpportunitiesRegular company-wide social events (even virtually!)Company OverviewFounded in 2014, by a team with deep experience across underwriting, analytics, reinsurance and capital markets, Palomar is an innovative specialty insurer serving residential and commercial clients in five product categories: Earthquake, Inland Marine and Other Property, Casualty, Fronting and Crop.
