Remote Civil Construction Estimator / Takeoff Specialist (Independent Contractor – Ongoing Work) - Contract to Hire
We are a Massachusetts-based civil construction company that specializes in public civil construction work (Roadway Construction, Drainage, Site Work & Sidewalks) seeking an experienced independent civil construction estimator to provide accurate quantity takeoffs and bid form completion for public sector (State of MA, Various Cities and Towns in MA) roadway construction, drainage, site & sidewalk projects.
This is a remote, 1099 contractor role with the opportunity for ongoing, consistent work for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
•Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications
• Prepare accurate cost estimates (labor, materials, subs, etc.) Specifically, takeoffs will need to be broken down into MassDOT bid items for estimating purposes.
• Review drawings, specs, and bid documents
• Completely fill out bid forms with company information and pricing requirements
• Identify scope gaps, RFIs, and potential cost risks
• Assist with bid preparation, bids that are unit priced will need bid items transferred to Microsoft excel sheet and sheet sent back for pricing then pricing would need to be entered into bid from the completed excel bid item sheet.
• Deliver estimates and completed bid forms via email within agreed timelines
Requirements
• Proven experience in civil construction (Roadway Construction, Site Work, Drainage & Sidewalk Construction) estimating (U.S. projects required, Massachusetts Preferred). Specifically, Massachusetts Public Sector Civil Construction. Specializing in Roadway Construction, Site Work, Drainage & Sidewalk Construction.
• Strong knowledge of Massachusetts Public Sector Civil Construction
• Experience with at least one, and you must have your own takeoff software for use:
o Bluebeam
o PlanSwift
o On-Screen Takeoff (OST)
• Ability to read and interpret full construction plan sets
• Understanding of CSI divisions and scope breakdowns as well as MassDOT bid items and specifications preferred.
• Familiarity with Northeast / Massachusetts pricing (preferred)
• Strong attention to detail and communication
Project Details

• Project Size: ($500,000.00 to $10,000,000.00)
• Turnaround Expectations: (e.g., 2–5 days depending on size)
Compensation
• Paid per project or hourly (based on experience)
• Ongoing work available for reliable performers
