[Remote] Children's Book Editor and Book Designer

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Atmosphere Press is an author-friendly book publisher that prioritizes meaningful author experiences. They are seeking an apprentice for their Children’s Book Department to learn the publishing process, focusing on editorial and design aspects while providing support to authors. Responsibilities • Read children’s book manuscripts and provide thoughtful developmental feedback. • Connect authors with in-house illustrators and assist in maintaining clear, positive communication throughout the creative process. • Paginate manuscripts according to industry standards and narrative flow. • Help authors select fonts and other design elements to bring their stories to life. • Design children’s book interiors in Adobe InDesign, including illustration placement and typesetting. • Coordinate with the cover designer and manage all author–designer correspondence until cover approval. • Support authors with patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism, ensuring their experience is positive and creatively fulfilling. Skills • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign. • Prior editorial experience, preferably in children’s literature or related fields. • A sense of whimsy and play, with a passion for storytelling. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build long-term, trust-based relationships with authors. • Comfort in a client-facing role and enthusiasm for guiding authors through the publishing process.
