Power Systems Modeling Engineer Sr

The Power Systems Modeling Engineer Sr will provide engineering and economic analysis for resource adequacy and risk assessment, conduct system modeling, and support capacity expansion studies.ResponsibilitiesProvides engineering, economic analysis, and other technical support for resource adequacy and risk assessment, transmission planning, and grid integration studies in compliance with ERCOT Protocols, the Planning Guide, and NERC standardsConducts system modeling and analyzes simulated or actual operating resultsDevelops tools and procedures for reporting resource status and trendsSupports or conducts analyses requested by other ERCOT staff or Market Participant groupsManages and operates production cost and other system simulation models to support capacity expansion studies, probabilistic loss of load studies, and grid integration analysis for renewable and emerging resource technologiesAssists in the preparation of resource adequacy reports; conducts reviews of reports prepared by other department staffHelps prepare responses to public inquiries and data filing requests from the North American Reliability Corporation and Federal Energy Regulatory CommissionMonitors developments in generation markets and fuel delivery that could impact resource reliability; prepares reports and briefing materials on related topicsAssists in extracting, analyzing and validating resource data stored in ERCOT’s database systemsCommunicates with generator owners and other ERCOT market participants on resource adequacy and reliability impacts of state/federal regulations, drought conditions, fuel supply disruptions and market development trendsSupports analysis requests made by the ERCOT Supply Analysis Working Group and other groups under the Wholesale Market SubcommitteeOther tasks as assigned by managementSkillsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or a combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with knowledge equivalent to a major in such fieldsMinimum 1 year (in excess of degree requirements stated above) of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or similar type roleExperience within the electric utility industry preferredFamiliarity with grid simulation tools for determining electricity production costs and/or optimal generation capacity expansionFamiliarity with risk assessment techniques using scenario analysis and probabilistic modeling methods such as Monte Carlo simulationProgramming languages: Python, SQL, Visual Basic for ApplicationsProfessional Engineer registration in Texas preferredCompany OverviewThe Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to 24 million Texas customers.
