Mentor Coach, Board Coaching & Development - Remote Position

JOB SUMMARY: Provide statewide mentoring, coaching and leadership to current and aspiring Board of Trustees Coaches in programs such as Lone Star Governance (LSG), Texas Strategic Leadership (TSL), Systems of Great Schools (SGS), as well as to Texas Registered and Authorized Board Training Providers, Texas Education Agency (TEA) appointed Monitors, Conservators, and Board of Managers, school boards, charter system trustees, superintendents and district/charter staff, and other initiatives from the TEA, as necessary. Build School Board coaches' capacity to align district systems toward high impact strategies that drive the improvement of student outcomes. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: JOB KNOWLEDGE Master's degree f rom an accredited university required. School board training or coaching experience and certification (such as EISO provider, Lone Star Governance Coach, or other governance program) preferred. Mid-Management, Supervisor, Principal, or Superintendent Certification required. Three years of relevant experience training or coaching boards with improving student outcomes required. Deep understanding of core leadership competencies for members of the board of trustees, superintendents, change management processes and practices, performance management, high level principles and practices, stakeholder engagement, and adult learning and motivation theory. Understanding of the Texas accountability system (state and federal identification). Strong foundation in coaching models and ability to implement with key stakeholders. Experience with developing and implementing strategic plans that are focused on improving academic performance and student outcomes, to include stakeholder engagement, executive level communication, comprehension sharing academic data with the board, implementing progress monitoring practices with boards, effective board questioning practices, and fostering collaboration between board trustees and superintendents to accomplish district student goals. Demonstrated effective communication and customer service skills required. Proficiency with standard functions within electronic applications such as MS Office (e.g., word processing, electronic spreadsheets) and e-mail. Proficiency with computers (PCs and/or MACs) to include desktop management, f ile management and operations, and working in a network environment. Exceptions to these requirements will be considered based on exemplary skills, training, and record of success. PRODUCTS/OUTCOMES Provide tailored training, coaching and support to current and aspiring Board Coaches and Authorized Providers. Jointly facilitate meetings with Monitors, Conservators, Board Coaches, Authorized Providers, Board Trustee and Superintendents in a TEA Board Coaching program. Support staff in all Board Training and Coaching programs with planning, implementation, and/or improvement to meet program outcomes. Facilitate and co-facilitate LEA 2 day LSG workshops as necessary. Provide direct coaching and mentoring coaches for TEA determined LEAs to achieve milestones and outcomes in board coaching programs. Coach a caseload of Board Coaches across Board -Pathways specifically focusing on pilot program exemplar cohorts across pathways leading into a next cycle of programs. Co-create and co-facilitate content, tools, and trainings across Board Coaching Pathways and Programs. Coach high-profile LEAs to achieve Board coaching program milestones and outcomes. Deliver the Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO) workshop to certify Authorized Providers. Build the skills of current and aspiring Authorized Providers. Coach LSG, TSL, SGS and/or other agency initiatives coaches to support aligned implementation, including but not limited to: Monthly individualized coaching sessions Reviewing program outputs and milestones for proficiency and completion using rubrics Providing targeted feedback and coaching action steps to support aligned implementation and execution of program expectations. Ensure specific outcomes and achievements are reached as defined and measured by TEA. Provide strong content knowledge and facilitation skills, building authentic stakeholders trust, and leading to the achievement of the Texas Education Agency's outcomes. Establish, monitor, and report on strategic planning process and outcomes. INITIATIVE Identify areas of program operations in need of change to foster increased efficiency and/or effectiveness in order to enhance service delivery and quality of coaches. Demonstrate initiative, persistence, and a high level of energy and enthusiasm for assigned responsibilities. Set challenging goals and reach a high standard of performance despite barriers. Participate and engage in learning experiences that enhance job knowledge and skills and build capacity in the program area. Demonstrate f lexibility and adaptability to new situations and assignments. Create solutions for areas of concern that align with the program philosophy and approach. Remain current regarding local, state and national factors inf luencing or having potential inf luence on Board Coaching and Development. Stay abreast of research-based priorities, theories, and methodologies to increase governance effectiveness. Work under minimal supervision. COMMUNICATION/HUMAN RELATIONS Communicate effectively and interact professionally with internal and external clients. Demonstrate professional-level written and oral communication skills. Demonstrate effective implementation of the continuous improvement and growthmindsets. Demonstrate self -confidence and poise in representing the Education Service Center. Establish and maintain an effective system of communication and interaction with staff and external clients. Build professional relationships with colleagues and clients, maintaining regular and continuing interaction in meeting shared outcomes. Work collaboratively in a team setting. Demonstrate and maintain high-level customer service skills at all times (e.g., courtesy, patience, diplomacy, etc.) and, in particular, when under stressful or unprecedented situations in dealing with staff and/or external clients. Promote and support organizational change. Keep supervisor informed. Regularly handle sensitive and confidential materials and information appropriately and securely. SUPERVISION AND ORGANIZATION OF STAFF None BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES Be aware of and follow program guidelines of allowable costs when recommending use of program funds for expenditures for supplies, equipment, and facilities in area of assignment. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged sitting/standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions including f requent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. Lif ting: Occasional light lif ting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours. Occasional statewide travel. Mental Demands: Work with f requent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Function within the policies and procedures of ESC-20. This is a remote position; however, onsite attendance at ESC-20 is required approximately 10 days per year. Accept other responsibilities as assigned. Dress and groom appropriately for ESC-20 work setting. Travel independently to fulf ill responsibilities of the position. Serve at the will of the Executive Director. FUNDING This position is partially funded out of state and/or federal grant funds. These programs are implemented in compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory provisions. The duties associated with this position are allowable and allocable to the grant funding.
