Job Description:

The Penguin Random House Digital Workflow Development and Support team is seeking a design-focused Manager to join a talented and established team developing and supporting bookmaking workflows for print and ebook production.

As part of a team of experts known for providing exceptional support, you'll work closely with interior designers and production managers in our divisions to understand their workflows, challenges, and future needs. You will advise and train users on industry-standard bookmaking software such as Adobe InDesign and proprietary in-house processes and tools. In addition, you will help the team identify opportunities to gain efficiency through improving existing workflows and user proficiency, as well as help develop automations and alternatives that benefit users and the business. Specific responsibilities include:
• Ensure interior design application files utilize optimal best practices and meet workflow requirements for print and digital production readiness and quality.
• Problem solve and troubleshoot technical issues or non-compliance through the design, typesetting, and production phases of the workflow.
• Provide training through custom demos, group training, and one-on-one support.
• Continue to help refine, develop, and standardize best practices and processes related to book interior design and production for print books and ebooks.
• Collaborate with the individuals supporting the editorial teams to make sure that production editorial and design best practices are in sync.
• Support content management and archiving to ensure bookmaking assets and workflows are integrated with other corporate needs.
• Write and update documentation to support workflows and processes for internal and external parties.
• Test, document, support, and provide training on the systems and software that support our bookmaking workflows. This includes proprietary systems and tools as well as Adobe products.

• 5+ years of book publishing or relevant industry experience.
• Expert-level knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word.
• Proficiency with other Adobe applications, such as Acrobat, Bridge, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to support users across a range of skill levels.
• Demonstrated ability to simplify and explain complex technical information to creative, non-technical audiences.
• Excellent critical thinking skills and resourcefulness in troubleshooting.
• Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects and balance them with daily user support needs.

Preferred qualifications:
• Project management experience and familiarity with project and workflow management software such as Jira and ServiceNow.
• Experience with WordPress and MailChimp.
• Knowledge of JavaScript, ExtendScript, and GREP.
• Understanding of XML structure and schema, and how it can be used in a book publishing workflow.
• Basic understanding of HTML and CSS as applied to reflowable and fixed-layout EPUB formatting.

The PRH office is located in New York City. This position is open to remote candidates located within the United States who can work primarily on Eastern Time.

The salary for this position is $73,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
