Freelance Book Scout & Trend Consultant
Location: Remote (Global) Type: Freelance / Project-Based Compensation: Competitive Flat Fee per Approved Project/Lead
The Role
We are looking for a sharp, market-savvy Book Scout & Packager to help us identify high-potential projects before they hit the mainstream. You won't just be looking for good writing—you’ll be looking for market opportunities.
Your mission is to stay ahead of the curve, identifying trending topics, untapped niches, pop culture hits, and compelling voices that resonate with a broad audience. You will act as our eyes and ears in the publishing world, delivering actionable leads that we can turn into bestsellers.
What You’ll Do
• Trend Spotting: Monitor social media (TikTok/BookTok, Substack, X, Instagram, etc.), news cycles, and cultural shifts to identify emerging topics that are ripe for book-length treatment.
• Talent Scouting: Find self-published authors ready for a traditional house, subject matter experts with a platform, and writers capable of executing on specific concepts.
• Project Delivery: Present us with one of four wins:
1. Concept & Creator Matches: A winning book idea paired with a writer/expert we can commission.
2. Completed Manuscripts: Ready-to-purchase works that fit our brand.
3. Hybrid/Self-Pub Leads: Successful indie authors looking to level up.
4. Packaged Books: Finished, ready-to-books that are edited, designed, and in search of a publisher.
• Pitching: Provide concise, data-backed pitches explaining:
1. Why a topic is trending.
2. Who the target audience is.
3. How the book meets those guidelines and its expected performance in the market.
Who You Are
• Market-Obsessed: You understand why certain books go viral and can distinguish between a fleeting fad and a sustainable trend.
• Connected: You have your pulse on the creator economy, indie publishing circles, or specific non-fiction niches.
• Entrepreneurial: You don't wait for a brief; you proactively hunt for ideas and bring them to the table.
• Clear Communicator: You can summarize a book’s hook in two sentences and back it up with market logic.
The Partnership
This is a freelance, per-project position. When you bring us a project or an author that we greenlight for purchase or contract. You get paid a flat finder/packaging fee based on one of our established tiers.
