About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Special Education Substitute Teacher to join our team in Denver, CO. As a SpEd Substitute Teacher, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students, sharing your knowledge and expertise to make a positive impact on their educational journey. Key Responsibilities

Follow and teach lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, adapting to the needs of special education students
Instruct based on subject and grade-specific curriculum, using your expertise to engage and motivate students
Monitor and assess student achievements and outcomes, providing feedback and support to ensure student success
Exercise classroom and behavior management skills, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment
Share your specialized knowledge to coach staff and support special education students, contributing to the development of individualized educational plans


Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications:

Active Teaching license with a special education generalist (5-21) and/or special education specialist (5-21) endorsement(s)
Substitute Authorization (must have or be in the process of obtaining if license is expired)
Three professional references, including one from a previous direct supervisor
Completion of a Background Check for Scoot Education (you'll be reimbursed for the cost on your first paycheck)
Completion of a Background Check for the Colorado Department of Education (to receive your Substitute Authorization; you will not be reimbursed for the cost)


Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

Experience working with students with special needs, including autism, mild moderate, severe, and multi-intensive
Knowledge of individualized educational plans, functional behavior assessments, and behavior intervention plans
Experience with trauma-informed teaching, classroom management, and behavior intervention techniques
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents

Competitive pay rates: We offer up to $273 for day-to-day assignments and more for long-term assignments, with pay varying based on credentials, school, and assignment
