As a TA, you will play a crucial role in mentoring students and supporting faculty in the Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) course, helping to shape the next generation of healthcare professionals. As an Online Teaching Assistant, you will be an integral part of our team, working closely with faculty and students to ensure a high-quality learning experience. Key Responsibilities Provide one-on-one mentoring to assigned students in the CIC course, guiding them to the prescribed course materials and providing feedback on their progress. Observe and evaluate individual student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, practical assignments, quizzes, and examinations. Use AAPC's learning management system to access syllabus, assignments, and other materials, and to communicate with students. Participate in live sessions using AAPC's virtual classroom platform, assisting faculty and providing technical support as needed. Mentor students using a variety of teaching styles, providing interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate real-world applications of concepts covered. Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments using AAPC's virtual platform or by phone or email. Attend orientation sessions to become familiar with AAPC's policies and procedures, and the learning management system. Respond to student coaching questions within 48 hours of receiving questions. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A current and valid certification in Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC). Prior teaching experience in corporate training, particularly to adult students. 2-3 years of production coding or auditing experience. Current knowledge of the relevant discipline. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching adult learners. Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Prior experience teaching online or in a hybrid format. Experience with teaching fully online or in hybrid format. Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need: The ability to use technology effectively in teaching. Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries. The ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues.
