[Remote] Senior Python/AWS Developer (AWS, Smart Grid, Water/Gas Utility) - 100% Remote - W2 Contract
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Optomi, in partnership with a leading electric power and gas distribution company, is seeking a Senior Python/AWS Developer to fulfill a long-term, multi-year contract with a client based in the Carolinas. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and enhancing distributed energy management and smart grid platforms that support solar site operations.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems and cloud-native services using Python and AWS Lambda
ā¢ Build and optimize scalable workflows leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Glue, and Redshift
ā¢ Lead efforts to ensure backend systems are resilient, performant, and secure across distributed architectures
ā¢ Collaborate with product managers, analysts, and domain experts to translate business needs into technical solutions
ā¢ Mentor junior developers and drive adoption of engineering best practices
ā¢ Contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives using Terraform to support deployment and configuration of backend systems
ā¢ Provide domain leadership in areas such as distributed energy resource management, meter data processing, and integration with operational systems like SCADA and PI
Skills
ā¢ 7+ years of backend software engineering experience, with significant experience in Python
ā¢ Strong expertise in building serverless or containerized microservices using AWS Lambda and other core AWS services
ā¢ Experience designing data processing and transformation pipelines using AWS Glue, EMR, or custom Python solutions
ā¢ Deep understanding of AWS ecosystem including S3, DynamoDB, Redshift, Lambda, and Kinesis
ā¢ Hands-on experience with real-time data processing using Kinesis and/or Kafka
ā¢ Proficiency in Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools for cloud resource management
ā¢ Ability to lead and mentor engineering teams effectively
ā¢ Industry experience in the utilities or energy sector strongly preferred
ā¢ Familiarity with meter data management, SCADA systems, PI System, and sensor integration in utility environments (preferred)
ā¢ Experience working with or integrating platforms from EPRI, GE Vernova, Schneider Electric, Siemens, or similar utility tech companies (preferred)
ā¢ Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders (preferred)
