About the Role
The EHS Lead will be responsible for overseeing site operations, maintenance, and construction activities at our Waukee data center, ensuring compliance with Apple's policies, federal, state, and local regulations. This is a full-time, in-person role that requires a strong understanding of EHS principles, excellent communication and project management skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player with a passion for EHS and a commitment to driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Apple's standards
Conduct job risk analyses, identify controls, and approve work permits to ensure safe working practices
Oversee on-site contractors and vendors, ensuring they adhere to Apple's EHS policies and procedures
Lead or participate in incident investigations, develop corrective actions, and drive them to closure
Collaborate with local and broader site teams, corporate EHS training team, and the data center training team to develop and deploy training programs
Perform EHS audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance
Support chemical and hazardous materials management, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
Comply with record-keeping and reporting requirements for air, water, and waste permits
Conduct industrial hygiene tests and support corporate EHS initiatives to improve management systems, standards development, and technology systems
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
A minimum of 3-5 years of broad-based EHS experience, with a focus on construction, contractor management, and data center maintenance and operations
A strong understanding of facilities management, engineering, construction, environmental control, physical safety, fire/life safety, and industrial hygiene
Excellent company, project management, data analytics, and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to persuade without authority
The ability to learn and apply software solutions for data management, online file collaboration, and virtual meetings
A bachelor's degree in a relevant EHS discipline area (desired)
Relevant technical certifications, such as CSP or CIH (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are desirable:
Experience working in a data center or similar environment
Knowledge of applicable consensus standards and federal, state, and local regulations
Experience with EHS management systems and software solutions
Strong business acumen and understanding of the impact of EHS on business operations
