Job Overview The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing large-scale data pipelines and architectures that support business and operational needs. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with different teams to define and implement data acquisition, transformation, processing, and analysis that drive business growth and improvement Design, develop, and implement streaming and near-real-time data pipelines that feed systems that are the operational backbone of our business Implement unit tests and validate expected results to ensure accuracy and integrity of data and applications through analysis, coding, and writing clear documentation and issue resolution Drive the adoption of data processing and analysis within the Hadoop environment and assist in cross-training other team members Utilize technical and business skills to understand and address customer and business-driven questions Lead and guide cross-functional initiatives that involve colleagues across all areas of the project, vendors, external companies, and partners Utilize data from various sources to build data warehouses and insights that provide a comprehensive understanding of the business Develop and implement innovative solutions that lead to automation Utilize Agile methodologies to manage projects Mentor and train junior engineers Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to have: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field 3+ years of IT experience in software development 2+ years of development experience using Java, Python, Scala 2+ years of experience in Big Data technologies like PySpark, Hadoop, Hive, HBASE, Kafka, Nifi 2+ years of experience in relational database systems like MS SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata Creative, driven, and meticulous individuals who enjoy solving complex problems with data and insights Individuals who have a natural curiosity and desire to solve problems are encouraged to apply Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship Successful completion of an interview is required to meet job qualifications Reliable, consistent attendance is a fundamental requirement of the position Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: A Master's degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field Experience with cloud-based systems like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Certified Developer/Engineer on AWS Strong experience with continuous integration and delivery using Agile methodologies Data engineering experience in the transportation/airline industry Strong problem-solving skills Strong knowledge of Big Data Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At United Airlines, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
