Our Data Platform Teams

We're comprised of several teams, each focusing on a specific aspect of our data infrastructure:


Database Access Platform: Building and operating a scalable query engine that works with data reflections to achieve sub-millisecond latencies, enabling Netflix microservices to efficiently store, consume, and manage their data.
Data Platform Foundation: Developing a platform for our own data platforms, providing common infrastructure and tooling that enables Netflix to rapidly innovate and provide cutting-edge data and analytics systems.
Big Data Compute: Providing a cloud-native platform for distributed data processing, supporting Flash, ETL, and data warehousing, as well as sub-second latency for specific queries using Druid.
Big Data Orchestration: Offering a platform for planning, scheduling, and executing large data jobs and workflows in a self-serve manner, enabling ETL and ML workloads to run on Big Data Frameworks at Netflix.


Key Responsibilities

As a Distributed Systems Engineer (L4) - Data Platform, you will:


Design, develop, and operate large-scale distributed systems features or applications, addressing genuine business needs at scale.
Architect and build robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure, ensuring fault tolerance and high performance.
Lead cross-functional initiatives and collaborate with engineers, product managers, and TPMs across teams to drive innovation and solve complex technical problems.
Contribute to open-source communities and add to Netflix OSS, sharing our experiences and expertise with the wider tech community.
Troubleshoot and optimize system performance, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, ensuring that our systems and processes are well-documented and easily accessible.


Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should:


Have 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications.
Be proficient in designing and developing RESTful web services, with experience in Java or other object-oriented programming languages.
Have hands-on experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
Be comfortable with multi-threading and solving complex technical problems.
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications

We'd love to see:


Experience with distributed databases, data warehousing, and ETL.
Knowledge of cloud-native technologies, such as AWS or GCP.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams.
