About the position We seek a Chief People & Culture Officer (CPCO) who will be a visionary leader responsible for shaping and stewarding the organization's culture, talent strategy, and employee experience. We are looking for a people-centric leader who will serve as an organizational culture architect. This person will help cultivate, build, and model a thriving, energized, equitable, inclusive and positive workplace. The Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO) is a member of the JCCSF's strategically focused Executive Team and reports directly to the CEO. The CPCO will supervise and work closely with the leadership of the Human Resources team, who will continue to oversee and manage all aspects of HR operations and administration. The JCCSF is a complex organization that offers a wide variety of programs and services. The CPCO will help each department at our community center develop a tailored talent strategy that aligns with our overarching culture and strategic goals. The CPCO ensures that the organization's values are reflected in every aspect of its people operations. This role blends strategic foresight with empathetic leadership, aligning people practices with mission impact, fairness, and long-term sustainability. Responsibilities • Guide, design and deliver people and culture strategies to align with organizational mission, strategies, and objectives. • Serve as a thought partner to the CEO and leadership teams on organizational culture, talent strategy, and workforce planning. • Lead cross-functional initiatives that embed inclusion and belonging across the organization • Design and implement people strategies that support growth, innovation, and resilience. • Advise leaders on workforce impacts and change management. • Develop and foster a culture aligned with organizational values and priorities, communication approaches, and team connections. • Champion a values-driven culture that fosters trust, collaboration, and psychological safety. • Oversee employee engagement efforts, including surveys, feedback loops, and recognition programs. Lead employee engagement initiatives, track employee engagement metrics, and communicate results to stakeholders. • Partner on internal communications to ensure transparency and alignment. • Foster a workplace culture rooted in Jewish values that include community, learning, and respect, while embracing the diversity of San Francisco. • Integrate Jewish culture and traditions into workplace culture and engagement initiatives • Build a workforce structure aligned with organizational goals related to leadership development and succession planning.. • Work with HR team to support goals related to talent acquisition and performance management. • Oversee learning and development programs that build capacity at all levels. • Partner with program and operations leaders to align structure and staffing with strategic goals • Plan, devise and execute multiple employee events focused on learning, team-building, and engagement. • Support Human Resources leadership's commitment to continued excellence in HR operations, legal compliance, and employee relations. • Support processes to ensure fair and competitive compensation and benefits strategies that attract and retain top talent. • Monitor workforce metrics and use data to inform decision-making and leverage data and analytics to enhance HR practices. • Work with HR to ensure the organization maintains technologies to streamline processes and improve efficiency. • Support the HR team's commitment to maintaining a respectful, legal, and ethical workplace, resolving conflicts and promoting a healthy work environment • Work with the HR team to ensure alignment with organizational policies. Requirements • 10+ years of progressive People and Culture leadership - ideally in an executive role at an organization with 150+ employees • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Human Resources, Nonprofit Management and/or Organizational Development; Master's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent professional certification preferred. • Proven track record in organizational development, talent strategy and culture-building, including: • Strategic planning and change management at an organizational level. • Talent management programming (acquisition, retention, succession planning) • Strategic compensation and benefit planning • Use of date to inform decision making • Strategic and creative thinker with a hands-on approach • Commitment to the principles of building inclusive teams and equitable talent systems. • A strong commitment to fostering belonging and mutual respect across cultures and experiences. Nice-to-haves • Experience working in organizations with employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement a plus • Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions preferred.
