Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, and at 270+ outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights.

Job Summary:

The Data Coordinator assumes a pivotal role in our organization, responsible for conducting surveys, observations, focus groups, and interviews to comprehensively capture feedback and generate reports on the experiences, behaviors, needs, and expectations of both Museum visitors and beneficiaries of our outreach programs. In addition to direct data collection, this individual integrates data from various sources to generate reports that assess impact and inform strategic growth efforts. They also serve as a liaison with staff across diverse programs, ensuring the timely and accurate collection, entry, and analysis of data in alignment with established guidelines and organizational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct data collection activities in English and Spanish at the Museum and at Outreach events using variety of methodologies, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observations.
• Engage with Museum visitors, beneficiaries, and stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner to foster participation in surveys and data collection endeavors.
• Capture and document observational data concerning visitor traffic, exhibit interactions, and overall engagement within the Museum.
• Facilitate interviews and focus groups with visitors and outreach program participants to gain insights into their motivations, interests, and feedback.
• Concisely document observational findings, focus group discussions, and interview transcripts, ensuring data collected in Spanish is translated accurately into English.
• Ensure consistent and timely data collection and entry in alignment with established guidelines, collaborating with teammates working in different programs to accomplish this goal.
• Organize and maintain databases of collected data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
• Perform quality checks and validation procedures on collected data to identify and address discrepancies or errors.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of survey responses, observational data, focus group discussions, and interview transcripts.
• Collaborate with team members to develop data collection strategies and protocols for specific projects or initiatives.
• Assist in reporting by analyzing data collected through surveys, observations, interviews, trackers, and other methodologies.
• Integrate data from various sources to generate reports that assess program impact and support strategic growth initiatives.
• Maintain and update data visualization dashboards for key programs, exhibits, and visitor experience evaluation data on an ongoing basis.
• Assist in translating survey instruments, interview guides, data collection tools, and related materials into Spanish.
• Adhere to established ethical guidelines and best practices in data collection and research.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Proficiency in both, English and Spanish (written & spoken) is required.
• Proficiency in using data collection tools and software, such as surveys, databases, and data entry systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Proactive and creative personality, with a willingness to learn and grow on the job.
• Ability to learn and master new software for data visualization and task management.

Preferred qualifications:
• College coursework in education, psychology, sociology, anthropology, or a related field is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences in survey activities, focus groups, and interviews in both languages.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection, record-keeping, and transcription.
• Ability to work independently and follow established protocols and procedures.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Education:
• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.

Experience:
• Previous experience in survey administration, data collection, focus group facilitation, and conducting interviews.
• Experience (through college course or work) in using pivot tables, charts, and graphs to sort and analyze data.
• Experience (through college course or work) in data visualization tools, such as PowerBI, Tableau, etc. is a plus.
• Experience working in an educational setting, such as a school, childcare program, library, or similar programs, is a plus.
• Interest in museums, cultural institutions, and visitor experience research.

Physical Requirements:
• Able to move around the Museum frequently, sometimes walking or standing for extended periods of time.
• Able to travel using own transportation from the Museum to outreach event sites in the Greater Houston Area.
• Able to carry lightweight objects, lift boxes, and roll carts when needed
