ASC Medical Coding Specialist II
Surgical Notes is hiring for a ASC Medical Coding Specialist II to provide accurate and timely coding for our ambulatory surgical clients. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational skills, communication skills, with the desire and ability to learn quickly. Working as a part of the team to meet deadlines, but also being able to work independently is crucial to the success in this position. Reports to: Manager, Coding
Responsibilities:
β’ Review operative reports to abstract information and apply CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes
β’ Provide coding for all Level 2 and some Level 3 procedures (ASC) as well as Level 1 as needed
β’ Perform coding for pro fee surgical encounters
β’ Verify LCD/NCD information as appropriate
β’ Utilize NCCI edits, AMA CPT Assistant, AHA Coding Clinic, and other resources as needed
β’ Initiate physician queries as needed
β’ Escalate coding/documentation problems when appropriate
β’ Participate in ongoing coding education
β’ Perform other related duties as required/assigned

β’ Quarterly Bonus (based on quality and productivity)
β’ Remote: The minimum bandwidth requirements are 10 Mbps upload and 50 Mbps download speeds. The recommended bandwidth requirements are 20 Mbps upload and 100 Mbps download speeds.
Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education:
β’ High School Diploma or equivalent
β’ Coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, COC, RHIT, CCS, etc., no apprentice designation)
β’ 2 years outpatient surgical coding
β’ 2 years of Ambulatory Surgical Center coding experience
β’ Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
β’ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
β’ Flexibility to assume new tasks or assignments as needed
β’ Strong attention to detail and speed while working within tight deadlines
β’ Exceptional ability to follow oral and written instructions
β’ A high degree of flexibility and professionalism
β’ Excellent organizational skills
β’ Outstanding communications skills; both verbal and written
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education:
β’ Associate Degree in healthcare related field
β’ Experience working in an /Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
β’ Strong Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Outlook, and Teams
Physical Demands:
β’ Sitting and typing for an extended period of time
β’ Reading from a computer screen for an extended period of time
β’ Speaking and listening on a telephone
β’ Working independently
β’ Frequent use of a computer and other office equipment
β’ Work environment of a traditional fast-paced and deadline-oriented office
