The Field Applications Engineer - Semiconductor and Electronics Industry is a pivotal role within IMI plc, focusing on the sales and technical support of motion and fluid control technologies. This position is designed for a candidate who is not only technically proficient but also possesses a strong sales mindset. The engineer will collaborate closely with the Sales Director to formulate and implement a business development strategy aimed at identifying, evaluating, and securing new business opportunities within the Semiconductor and Electronics Industry across the Americas. This role requires a deep understanding of pneumatic, fluid control, automation, and reliability solutions, enabling the engineer to assist customers in achieving their operational goals effectively. In this role, the Field Applications Engineer will serve as a key resource for distribution partners, acting as the primary technical expert for both new and existing opportunities. The engineer will engage in team selling, working alongside Regional Sales Managers, Product Management, and Design Engineering teams to drive profitable growth and expand market share. The position demands a proactive approach to building and maintaining relationships with customers, particularly with decision-makers in engineering, R&D, and procurement departments. Utilizing the Miller Heiman strategic selling methodology, the engineer will develop applications with distributor partners and lead all technical aspects of the sales process, from initial design concepts to successfully closing new business deals. The role also involves managing new business opportunities through the Salesforce CRM system, providing timely reports and insights to management. The engineer will be responsible for creating content for webinars and marketing materials, supporting new product development initiatives, and presenting complex projects throughout the sales cycle. With a remote work environment and up to 50% travel required, the ideal candidate will be based in the Greater Chicago area or the Midwest, demonstrating strong time management skills and accountability without the need for micromanagement.

Responsibilities
• Develop and demonstrate a strong working knowledge of all products and capabilities for the Semiconductor and Electronics Industry.

• Lead all technical steps of the sales process from design concept to winning new business.

• Execute a business development plan to grow existing and new customers through engineered solutions.
,
• Maintain customer relationships by working closely with decision-makers in engineering, R&D, and procurement departments.
,
• Create value by using technical knowledge to improve customer equipment and machine design.
,
• Lead product training for distributor partners and at customer sites and trade shows.
,
• Manage new business opportunities and document activities using Salesforce CRM.
,
• Develop content for webinars, white papers, and other marketing activities.
,
• Support new product development and growth hub strategies.
,
• Manage and present complex projects throughout the sales cycle.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree with an engineering concentration, preferably in a relevant field.
,
• 5+ years of technical and commercial sales experience or equivalent experience in outside industrial sales, field application engineering, or technical support.
,
• Working knowledge of electric actuation, motion control, fluid power, and/or mechatronics.
,
• Proven track record of identifying, evaluating, and commercializing new business opportunities.
,
• Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
,
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong project management and organizational skills.

• Certified Fluid Power Pneumatic Specialist

• Experience in industrial controls across multiple technical disciplines such as electric actuation, pneumatics, hydraulics, and fluid controls.
