The State of Tennessee is seeking an Accountant 1 to join their Finance and Administration department. This entry-level position involves professional accounting work under immediate supervision, including monitoring grant funds, auditing invoices, and performing reconciliations.ResponsibilitiesMonitors federal and third party grant and program funds to ensure accurate fund resultsAudits basic invoices and billings for compliance with departmental policies and procedures, contract terms, federal and state laws and regulationsAudits tax related accounting documents to determine compliance with federal tax laws and regulationsAnalyzes general ledger transactions to ensure and verify the accurate recording and/or application of fundsAnalyzes account documentation submitted by external customers to determine accurate and appropriate expendituresPerforms basic reconciliations of general ledger accounts, prepares financial activity reports, processes basic accounts payable transactions and accounting journal entries in electronic databases, and prepares sales tax returns as requiredGathers account information from internal and external customers to update and maintain accurate account postings, support transactions, and perform reconciliationsSolves basic problems related to customer billing based on reporting and researchManages long term projects to ensure timely completion of project milestonesPrioritizes daily tasks to meet deadlines and facilitate efficient task completionCommunicates with external customers regarding basic issues with financial transactionsSkillsGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accountingGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree including thirty-six quarter hours in accountingCompany OverviewState government is the largest employer in Tennessee, with approximately 43,500 employees in the three branches of government.
