Our daycare services are paid by the family. The Starting Place is also the only full-service special education preschool in Columbia County. Our classes are staffed with a master level, New York State certified special education teacher and New York State certified teacher assistants. TSP staff also includes speech language pathologists, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a clinical social worker, and a full-time registered nurse. Non-Exempt position Position hours: Monday -Friday 35 hours per week: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm with ½ hour unpaid lunch Pay rate: $35.00 per hour. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB Provide speech and language therapy services to children in the preschool special education program as stated in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) or as needed upon request of the program management staff; provide consultation to parents, other program staff and others as needed to ensure that the needs of the children are being met and that the goals/objectives of the therapy services are understood by all relevant parties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide screenings, individual or group speech and language therapy and annual assessments to children enrolled in special education services; coordinate these services with other program staff and clinicians. As a result of the child's speech and language assessment, make recommendations as needed for: individual or group speech and language therapy to be provided by the pathologist; communication goals to be provided by the pathologist; communication goals to be provided by the program staff; and communication enhancing methodologies to be incorporated by program staff in the provision of other goal activities. Provide direction and oversight to program staff involved in providing communication skills training confer with the teacher, other clinicians and the Supervisor when needed due to emerging needs of a child. Perform data collection procedures and report writing in accordance with both the program policies and procedures and with the reporting requirements for each child's county of residence and local school district, inclusive of specific documentation to meet federal Medicaid billing documentation; prepare and submit routine reports of information or updates as requested by the Supervisor. Assist in the development of IEPs and consult with other program staff in the area of communication for all children receiving special education services, inclusive of conducting demonstrations and training classes on signing, eating skills and communication and language-related topics per the request of the teacher or the management staff. Participate as a member of the Child Study Team and as the Classroom Team for each child on the caseload or as requested by the teacher or management staff. Work collaboratively with teachers and to as great an extent as possible, ensure that communication objectives are incorporated into each child's daily activities. Encourage parent participation and provide training as needed or requested; conduct annual parent workshops related to communication skills. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions or programs as required to meet regulatory and Agency requirements; ensure that all required trainings are attended as needed and appropriate certifications/licenses are maintained. Prepare and submit requisitions for equipment and supplies needed for adequate functioning of the program to the Supervisor; responsible for inventory and maintenance of such equipment. Prepare written articles for the program monthly bulletin on items of interest related to development of children's communication skills with other program speech and language clinicians. Provide clinical supervision to a Teacher of the Speech & Hearing Handicapped or a Clinical Fellow as requested by the Supervisor. REQUIREMENTS Master's degree in a field related to Speech and language pathology. NYSED Speech Language Pathologist License. One year of prior experience working with special education children. Exceptional written, communication, and computer skills A valid driver's license. Ability to be certified in all required trainings. Occasionally required to lift up to 80 pounds.
