We offer a competitive compensation package, with a salary of a competitive salary.   Job title: Professional Interpreter Company: Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 Job description : Position Definition: The Professional Interpreter provides interpreting and other support services to deaf/hard of hearing students integrated into regular classrooms. The primary responsibility is to facilitate communication among deaf/hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel in the school environment, in addition to coordinating educational opportunities for CLIU #21 interpreters and district educational staff regarding deaf/hard of hearing students. Relationship: The Professional Interpreter shall be responsible to the Supervisor of Special Programs and Services. Qualifications: Education/Experience: BA or BS in Interpreting, Required Minimum of three years? experience in Educational Interpreting. Educational Interpreters Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.50 score or higher, required. K-12 Educational Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), preferred. Skills/Knowledge: Aptitude for understanding content in major curricular areas throughout the elementary and secondary levels. Awareness of current events and issues, trends and fads, public personalities, etc., that are likely to be discussed or cited by students in an interpreted situation. Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders. Demonstrates the ability to maintain complete confidentiality. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated by patience, understanding, and congeniality. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates organizational skills and time management skills, providing for productivity, accuracy, and attention to detail in the carrying out of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities with minimal supervision. Demonstrates the ability to implement and comply with PA Individual Education Program process. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize assigned tasks. Completes tasks with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrates the ability to work independently and maintain departmental deadlines. Demonstrates the ability to make professional decisions. Demonstrates the ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Demonstrates philosophy of lifelong learning. Proficient in the use of technology to communicate with students, parents, staff, administrators, and community members. Possesses the skills to provide the highest level of customer service, with patience and knowledge of the department's services. Ability to attend work regularly at assigned work hours subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities. Maintains current knowledge of programs/services, such as surrogate parenting, health care options, local services providers, and other relevant PDE initiatives. Physical: Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, and communicate (vision, hearing, and speech) to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities. Ability to independently ambulate in and around work areas. Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support. Ability to exhibit appropriate manual dexterity to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities. Ability to conduct a safety restraint protocol which requires: a normal degree of flexibility; the ability to stand, walk, run, and shuffle for at least several minutes; the ability to kneel on one and two knees and then stand up; the ability to bend the trunk at 45 degrees and twist to either side; the ability to grasp firmly and raise hands above the head; the ability to learn and correctly demonstrate multi-step physical skills Authority: The Professional Interpreter will have the authority to perform all functions listed below in accordance with established policies and procedures. Functions/Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. In accordance with both state and/or federal law, reasonable accommodations will be considered upon employee request. Essential: Coordinates workshops, meetings, seminars, etc., related to the continuing education of current CLIU #21 interpreters. Participates in the selection process for hiring new interpreters. Educates all school personnel involved with deaf/hard of hearing students as to the roles and responsibilities of each party involved in the educational interpreting setting prior to the beginning of each school year. Coordinates scheduling for CLIU #21 interpreters and substitute coverage. Serves as contact person for public inquiries regarding interpreting services provided by CLIU #21. Serves as contact person for outside agencies providing substitute services to the CLIU #21. Ensures quality interpreting services at all levels of education within CLIU #21. Provides expressive and voice (may include American Sign Language, a form of manually coded English, and/or oral interpreting) for deaf/hard of hearing students in mainstream classes and various school settings. Works collaboratively with classroom teacher in making suggestions for effective strategies to produce effective learning outcomes, including, but not limited to, test taking strategies. Interprets the language of the lesson, assignment, or test for deaf/hard of hearing students. Provides tutoring and/or note taking services for deaf/hard of hearing students when interpreting is not needed. Participates in educational team meetings, providing insight on the success of communication strategies. Facilitates communication for the deaf/hard of hearing student during the course of the educational day to anyone the student needs to interact with through the use of sign language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and knowledge about accessibility. Interprets within social and academic settings, including, but not limited to, direct and overheard conversations, class instruction, lectures, tests, assemblies, field trips. Renders the message faithfully, always conveying the content and spirit of the speaker while using the language most readily understood by the person(s) being served. Understands CLIU #21 and/or departmental procedures and guidelines, as demonstrated by accurate application of procedures and guidelines. Secondary: Assists in providing orientations of deafness to hearing students and staff.
