Learn more at ! About the job: The Coding Specialist III assigns codes to medical diagnoses and procedures using appropriate coding classifications for assigned inpatient record types. What you will Do: Reviews medical records to determine all appropriate diagnostic and procedural code assignments. Validates appropriate DRG assignments. Assigns and sequences diagnostic and procedural codes using appropriate classification systems. Seeks clarification from healthcare providers or other designated resources to ensure accurate and complete coding. Enhances coding knowledge and skills with continuing education activities and by reviewing pertinent literature. What we are looking for: High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management Technology or a related field is preferred. Certification required as RHIT, RHIA or CCS (American Health Information Management Association). One (1) to three (3) years of related experience. Effective Communication Skills Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, and diagnostic and procedural coding, as normally obtained through a coding certificate program, or degree in Health Information Technology or Health Information Management.
