The Supply Chain Finance Data Science Team plays a critical role in enabling data-driven strategy and decision-making for our Walmart US Supply Chain and Store Operations Finance and Strategy organizations. Job Description As a Principal Data Scientist, you will advance Walmart's financial forecasting and strategic planning capabilities by applying machine learning, optimization, GenAI, and advanced analytics. Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Finance Data Science, you will partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to translate complex business challenges into actionable, data-driven solutions. Your work will shape financial strategy, streamline operations, and deliver meaningful impact at scale. What You'll Do • Advise leadership on data science and optimization strategies to drive advanced financial modeling, bringing a forward-looking lens to Walmart Finance priorities. • Develop innovative solutions to enhance financial planning and optimize operational decision-making. • Identify and integrate relevant data sources for supply chain and retail finance models, combining business context with industry and market insights. • Leverage emerging technologies and innovative data presentation methods to enhance financial processes. • Communicate insights effectively through compelling narratives and visualizations that influence leadership decisions. What You'll Bring • 9+ years of experience in Data Science, Operations Research, or Advanced Analytics (or PhD with 7+ years), ideally with exposure to finance or supply chain in a large-scale corporate environment • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, building scalable data pipelines, and maintaining high data quality standards • Strong knowledge of optimization techniques and enthusiasm for applying and developing GenAI tools • Exceptional written and verbal skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences • Sharp analytical thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and comfort making decisions in ambiguous or fast-changing environments The above information has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed in the role. The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
