Responsibilities
The SLC Economics Coordinator assists the director and/or assistant director in the administration of the SLC Economics Program, from managing the daily operations of the program to supervising a tutorial staff of 15-20 undergraduate students.
Deliver established academic support services in Economics, from drop-in tutoring to study group/exam review facilitation.
Assist with supervision and training of peer tutorial staff of 15-20 undergraduates tutors.
Assist with the coordination of daily program operations, from user outreach to data collection to website maintenance.
Maintains knowledge of course and departmental curricula at UC Berkeley.
Mentors undergraduates to enhance disciplinary and professional trajectories. Support students with academic interests and professional goals in Economics.
Serve students in navigating the critical transition points in gateway courses into the Economics; specifically attend to the demands and expectations of the discipline.
Establish and maintains partnerships with organization departments and units.
Serve on Center-wide committees to support the overall administrative needs and mission of the Center.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of multiple learning styles, affective, socio-cultural and linguistic issues as they apply to academic support.
Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
Skills in judgment and decision-making.
Problem solving skills.
Knowledge of the learning demands of the research university.
Knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline-specific; student-population specific).
Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Strong oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills.
Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.
Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems (such as Google Workspace for Education, etc.)
Basic graphic design skills for program promotion purposes.
Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
