Responsibilities - Work on a 52-bed medical surgical unit with all private rooms in an acute care hospital setting - Patient population includes post-op ortho, basic neuro post-ops, general post-ops, and medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, and cellulitis - Nurse to patient ratios are generally 1:6-7, most commonly 1:7 - EMR used is Allscripts - Sunrise and experience is preferred - 12-hour night shifts with every-other-weekend and holiday rotations - Floating may be required to other Med/Surg and Med/Surg/Oncology units, with possible IMC float for Med/Surg overflow only - Remote telemetry monitoring as needed, monitored by another unit - Specialized procedures and equipment include intermittent Bipap, Cpap, High Flow oxygen, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis (peritoneal dialysis experience highly preferred) - Drips may include heparin, PCAs, and occasional Ativan; no cardiac or insulin gtts - IV and PICC teams start all IVs; nurses are responsible for IV site assessment - Daily duties include caring for Med/Surg patients with post-op and acute medical needs - There is strong support with in-house hospitalist, intensivist, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and IV/PICC teams available 24/7 - Unit nurse aides usually maintain a 1:10-12 patient ratio with 4-6 CNAs per shift - Scrub color for RNs is navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets; hoodies are not permitted - Schedule requests allow up to 6 requests off per 6-week schedule, with schedules built in 6-week blocks - First time travelers will be considered if all requirements are met - Holiday coverage is required as part of a rotation - Travelers must submit an unexpired driver’s license for consideration Requirements - Active WV or compact RN license required - Minimum of 2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience required - Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required - Completion of general hospital orientation and two full unit shifts required before starting regular assignment - Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and participate in weekend and holiday rotations - Must meet a 50-mile radius requirement; local travelers are not accepted - Candidates with prior employment at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before reapplying; cumulative employment at WVU facilities cannot exceed one year without a 2-year break Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-622835.
