Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) – Generalist for a 13-week travel assignment in Wrangell, Alaska. Required Qualifications:
β€’ One year of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) required
β€’ Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations

Preferred Qualifications:
β€’ National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications
β€’ Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
β€’ Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position

Summary:

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is responsible for conducting and overseeing a wide range of laboratory tests across multiple disciplines, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and blood banking. This role ensures the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic results, participates in quality control and regulatory compliance, and plays a key role in laboratory management and policy development. CLS professionals work in hospitals, reference labs, and healthcare facilities, ensuring that laboratory operations meet state and federal regulations.

Essential Work Functions:
β€’ Perform complex laboratory tests and interpret results across various lab disciplines, such as blood bank
β€’ Oversee and validate test results, troubleshoot discrepancies, and approve diagnostic reports before release
β€’ Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated lab instruments and automated analyzers
β€’ Ensure compliance with AABB, CAP, CLIA, FDA, and other regulatory standards, actively preparing for audits and inspections
β€’ Conduct advanced immunohematology testing, including antigen identification and antibody identification
β€’ Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs
β€’ Assist in training and mentoring lab staff
β€’ Supervise lab personnel, assign workloads, and provide performance evaluations as needed
β€’ Maintain accurate records of laboratory findings, quality control measures, and instrument maintenance
β€’ Communicate critical results to physicians and healthcare providers in a timely manner
β€’ Investigate transfusion reactions and other serologic discrepancies, providing timely and accurate reports
β€’ Make technical decisions regarding specimen suitability, troubleshooting, and protocol modifications
β€’ Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
β€’ Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards

Required Essential Skills:
β€’ Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
β€’ The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
β€’ Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
β€’ Physical Abilities – Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
β€’ Interpersonal Skills – Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
β€’ Technical/Motor Skills – Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
β€’ Mental Requirements – Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
β€’ Sensory – Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate
