What You'll Do
The Student Success Librarian designs and implements instruction and outreach with a focus on the undergraduate student experience, including instructional design for the library's first-year writing instruction program. This position includes participating in engagement, outreach, and orientation initiatives for undergraduate students, focusing particularly on identifying and addressing barriers to student use of library collections, services, and spaces. As a member of the User Experience & Student Success Department, the Student Success Librarian also serves as a liaison to assigned departments, provides research consultations, and participates in the evaluation and development of online and in-person services and learning spaces. The Librarian in this position works both collaboratively and independently, with a focus on inclusive, learner-centered pedagogy.
This is a full-time, 12-month hybrid position.
Responsibilities:
? Engage in the department's planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of Tisch Library's first-year writing instruction program, with a focus on instructional design and the student experience.
? Design innovative and inclusive learning experiences for first year students across modalities that help to foster student success with information literacy knowledge and practices. Collaborate with library colleagues to share effective approaches to instruction for first year students.
? Work across campus units to build relationships with student-centered departments such as the StAAR Center, Student Life, the International Center, and others, to support both curricular and co-curricular student needs.
? As part of the UESS team, take an active role in developing and supporting the Library's student success initiatives, focusing on identifying and addressing barriers to student use of library collections, services, and spaces.
? Work with UESS librarians to develop and manage outreach and orientation programming, including open houses, table events, and other activities.
? Participate in the planning and assessment of the effectiveness and usability of online-learning objects and other library instructional materials, as well as in-person services and Library learning spaces, to enhance student learning outcomes.
? Serve as a liaison to assigned academic departments, lead information literacy instruction sessions, develop relevant collections, and provide research consultations.
The Search Committee will begin reviewing applications on February 26, 2024.
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
? Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent
? Experience working in an academic library
? Competency with the fundamental principles of instructional design or curriculum design
? Teaching or instruction experience, whether in a library or other educational setting
? A strong commitment to user-centered service; experience with learning user needs and recommending solutions that continuously improve library services to create a compelling, holistic user experience
? Ability to communicate effectively and constructively
? Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment as well as take initiative on independent projects
? Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse community and willingness to adopt the Tisch Library values of Community, Curiosity and Learning, Openness, and Social Justice.
Preferred Qualifications:
? Capacity to thrive in the ambiguous, future-oriented environment of a major research institution and respond effectively to changing needs and priorities
? Experience creating and teaching with online instructional materials
? Experience with planning or presenting programs or events
? Familiarity with technologies that impact student research, learning, and library engagement behaviors
? Experience, either on the job or through graduate level coursework, with library assessment practices and methodologies
? Demonstrated knowledge of current issues in equitable access to education and information
? Experience partnering with a variety of stakeholders that focus on student success
? Practical experience with ACRL's Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
This full-time, full-year position is hybrid and includes work that can be done remotely as well as work that must be done on-site (e.g. classroom instruction and other programming, training, and collaboration).
Pay Range
Minimum $63,600.00, Midpoint $79,500.00, Maximum $95,400.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
An employee in this position must complete all appropriate background checks at the time of hire, promotion, or transfer.
