About the Role The Student Retention Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing intervention and retention plans to ensure student success. This involves working closely with students, outreach service providers, other staff, and faculty to identify those whose behaviors indicate a lack of academic progress. By collaborating with staff, you will develop an early alert system to provide timely feedback about student academic progress and monitor student action plans aligned with short-term and long-term educational, post-secondary, and career objectives. Key Responsibilities: Develops and implements intervention and retention plans to ensure student success Provides academic and personal guidance/advising and referral services to students Refers students for academic skills assistance, including tutoring, counseling, and/or career guidance Assists in the coordination and implementation of orientation and reorientation activities for newly enrolled and returning students Assists administration in carrying out activities that support the mission of the school and New Haven Public Schools Provides assistance, as requested, concerning school activities to school administrative staff Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or his/her designee Qualifications and Requirements To be successful in this role, you will need to possess an Associate or Bachelor's degree, although a high school diploma or equivalent will be considered with relevant experience. You should have experience working with high-risk youth and adults, as well as knowledge of adolescent development. The ideal candidate will have a background in supporting students with career, college, and post-secondary planning. You should be able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities. Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive salary and benefits package that reflects our commitment to attracting and retaining top talent. The salary for this role is $36,148 (subject to change with new contract), and you will be part of the Local 3429 bargaining unit.
