About the Role
arenaflex is looking for a Staff Data Engineer to serve as a technical powerhouse to help us scale our data infrastructure, automation, and tools to meet evolving business needs. This is a hybrid/flexible position located in or near San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Seattle.
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of building and maintaining the data systems that power our entire organization. You'll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, design scalable solutions, and deliver high-quality data products that drive business intelligence and insights.
What You'll Do
Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with colleagues and partners to understand data requirements and translate business needs into technical specifications
Cross-functional partnership: Partner with engineering, product teams, and external stakeholders to gather required data and ensure seamless integration
Design and build data solutions: Architect, develop, and execute large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data models and pipelines for our Data Lake and Data Warehouse environments
Build reusable frameworks: Create scalable structures that improve the reliability and flexibility of our ETL processes
Data product ownership: Manage a suite of data products that deliver high-quality, consistent data to stakeholders across the organization
Mentorship and leadership: Tutor and mentor colleagues to improve their designs and solutions, fostering a culture of technical excellence
Innovation and optimization: Continuously evaluate and implement new technologies and approaches to improve data infrastructure performance

Essential Qualifications
Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or a similar technical role
Programming expertise: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or Java
ETL and workflow tools: 3+ years of experience with ETL deployment and workflow management tools such as Airflow, Flink, Oozie, or Azkaban using AWS/GCP cloud platforms
Database fundamentals: Strong mastery of database fundamentals, SQL, and distributed computing concepts
Distributed ecosystems: 3+ years of experience in distributed data ecosystems including Spark, Hive, Druid, or similar technologies, and streaming technologies such as Kafka or Flink
Data platforms: Hands-on experience working with Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and/or other DBMS platforms
Reporting tools: Knowledge of reporting tools such as Tableau, Superset, or Looker
Communication skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working with both technical and non-technical teams
Self-motivated: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with strong self-starter qualities and excellent self-organization skills
Analytical thinking: Ability to think conceptually, analyze, and interpret market and consumer information
Location: Must be located near one of our engineering hubs (San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Seattle) for this hybrid role
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
Experience with real-time streaming data processing at scale
Knowledge of machine learning pipelines and MLOps practices
Experience with data governance and data quality frameworks
Background in building and maintaining multi-tenant data platforms
Experience in high-growth technology companies or startup environments
