Job description: OverviewHow you can make a differenceHealthEquity is seeking an experienced Senior Fraud Operations Engineer to own our card-fraud intelligence stackâmanaging Visa Risk Manager (VRM) rules, integrating Visa Account Attack Intelligence (VAAI) and Visa Data Analytics (VDA) insights, and coordinating with Fiserv and rest of internal card fraud team on dispute workflows. You will drive best-in-class authorization optimizationâbalancing fraud mitigation with member experienceâwhile delivering real-time analytics, rule tuning, and intelligence-led playbooks. This fully remote role is critical to reducing card losses, improving approval rates, and staying ahead of sophisticated fraud rings.What youâll be doingVRM Rule Management & OptimizationMonitor, analyze, and tune VRM rulesets dailyâadjust thresholds, block/allow lists, and exception handling to minimize false positives and maximize authorization rates.Conduct VRM performance reviewsâtrack key metrics (approval lift, fraud rate bps, challenge volumes), document changes, and present optimization roadmaps.Credential Stuffing, Device Risk, Merchant Specific scoreâ IntegrationIngest and operationalize feeds (credential-stuffing indicators, device-risk signals) and intelligence (merchant-specific fraud risk scores, attack-pattern insights) into our fraud-scoring engine.Collaborate with Visa to trial new AI-powered products, pilot rule recommendations, and deliver feedback for continual improvement.Dispute & Chargeback CoordinationPartner with Fiservâs dispute-management team: ensure seamless case data transfer, escalate high-risk disputes, and track financial impacts.Analyze dispute trends (CNP, NRI, counterfeit) to inform proactive rule adjustments and downstream recoveries.Authorization Optimization & AnalyticsDevelop and maintain BI dashboards (Power BI/Tableau) showing real-time KPIs: net approval rate, fraud loss bps, dispute outcomes, and VAAI/VDA signal efficacy.Lead A/B tests on rule changes and AI enhancementsâmeasure lift, false-positive differentials, and customer experience impact.Fraud Playbooks & Incident ResponseConvert investigation insights into automated SOAR playbooks and VRM rule templates for rapid response to emerging fraud patterns.Support live-incident response for major card-fraud eventsâcoordinate with Operations, Investigations, and Visa escalation teams.Documentation & TrainingAuthor runbooks, rule-change protocols, and âhow-toâ guides for credit or debit card usage.Train fraud-ops analysts and stakeholders on Visa-powered tools, fraud indicators, and dispute-management workflows.What you will need to be successful
5+ years in payment-card fraud operations or risk-management roles, with hands-on experience in Visa Risk Manager.
Proven ability to configure, tune, and monitor VRM rule engines and interpret Visa AI-powered recommendations.
Familiarity with Visa Account Attack Intelligence (VAAI) and Visa Data Analytics (VDA) paradigms and feeds.
Experience working with processors (preferably Fiserv) on dispute/chargeback escalations and recoveries.
Strong analytical toolkit: SQL proficiency, Excel modeling, and dashboard creation (Power BI/Tableau).
Deep understanding of card-authorization flows, MCC risk profiles, and payment-network dynamics.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate remotely with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Exposure to AI/MLâdriven fraud solutions, rule-engine design, or real-time risk-scoring architectures.
Prior experience integrating third-party intelligence feeds and data enrichment services.
Understanding of compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, FFIEC) and privacy regulations impacting payment data.
