About the Role We're looking for a part-time (.50) Special Education Teaching Assistant to support our Transition Program. As a key member of our team, you'll work closely with teachers and other staff to provide instructional and non-instructional support to students with disabilities. Your primary focus will be to assist and enhance the educational process, promoting academic, social, and emotional growth in our students. Key Responsibilities Assist teachers in meeting the needs of special education students, providing individualized support and accommodations as needed. Reinforce lessons and provide additional instruction to students, either one-on-one or in small groups. Implement behavior modification plans and procedures designed to support individual students' needs. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and progress. Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Observe and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and other staff. Assist with daily activities, including lunch, transitions, and hygiene/toileting needs. Sanitize classrooms and equipment using approved materials. Perform other duties as assigned by teachers or building principals. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you'll need to meet the following essential qualifications: Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Substitute Teaching License, or Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator. Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, or 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution. High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum score of 480 on the ETS Parapro test or 4 on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents. Ability to work effectively with children, demonstrating patience, empathy, and understanding. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents. Working knowledge of child guidance principles, behavior management, and positive reinforcement techniques. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a transition program. Knowledge of mechanical lifting/positioning devices and ability to use them safely. Basic record-keeping skills and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs, and push/pull items up to 100 lbs. What We Offer As a member of our team, you'll enjoy: A competitive hourly rate of $16, commensurate with experience.
