Somali to/from English - Translator, Editor and Transcriber
This is a remote position.
Somali to/from English - Legal Translator, Editor, and/or Transcriber (Remote)
Status: Freelance Contractor
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required
Global Language Strategies, a business headquartered in the Washington , D.C. metropolitan region, is currently seeking professional freelance linguists to translate, edit, and/or transcribe legal documents from Somali English. This is a remote position, as needed.
Job Duties:
1. Provide accurate translation and/or editing of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from Somali English.
2. Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms.
3. Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language.
4. Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.
5. Translate and/or transcribe following the government clientâs style guides and quality standards.
6. Use domain-specific terminology.
7. Review and certify other translatorsâ work quality, as needed.
8. Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
9. Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
10. Abide by a code of ethics when performing transcription and translation work.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Is a U.S. citizen willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Moderate Level.
2. Bachelorâs degree or equivalent experience.
3. At least 3 years of experience in translating and/or editing between English and a foreign language.
4. At least 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.
5. Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the target foreign language(s).
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
7. Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as Trados.
Preferred Qualifications:
⢠*ATA, NAJIT or other relevant professional certification.
