About Netflix and the Dev Spaces Team Netflix is a pioneer in the entertainment industry, and our Dev Spaces team plays a vital role in supporting developer productivity. Our mission is to provide Netflix engineers with seamless development workflow tooling, environments, and managed IDEs. We're achieving this through the tight integration of IDEs, dev tooling, cloud workspaces, and Netflix's internal Platform. Our goal is to minimize friction, reduce context switching, and guide engineers through the Netflix development lifecycle. The Dev Spaces Team's Flagship Product: Newt One of our most successful products is Newt, a command-line tool that orchestrates development workflows for thousands of Netflix engineers. As a Software Engineer L5 on our team, you'll have the opportunity to push Newt and the capabilities of Netflix Engineering forward. You'll work closely with our team to improve our development workflow tooling, exploring new opportunities to expand integrations between dev tooling, IDEs, and our internal remote development environment product. Key Responsibilities As a Software Engineer L5 on our Dev Spaces team, you'll be responsible for: Serving as one half of a pair of engineers focused on Newt and other foundational, language-agnostic development workflow tooling. Continuing to improve our ability to optionally move builds and tests off of developer laptops and into the cloud. Exploring opportunities to expand integrations between dev tooling, IDEs, and our internal remote development environment product. Managing feedback loops with the many teams that use our products, ensuring we meet their needs and deliver exceptional experiences. Requirements and Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: Prior experience in a role focused on developer productivity, such as IDEs, dev tooling, or dev environments. Professional-level proficiency in Go, Java, Python, or JavaScript. A product-centric mindset that enables you to understand business needs and design scalable systems and engineering solutions that meet those needs. Strong senses of empathy and curiosity to build the best possible experiences for the users of your products. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with and influence teams and individuals, driving initiatives forward without a strict top-down mandate. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience with cloud-based development environments and managed IDEs. Familiarity with containerization technologies, such as Docker. Knowledge of agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location. The overall market range for roles in this area of Netflix is typically $300,000 - $900,000.
