Senior Underwriting Specialist - Lead Complex Risk Assessments and Drive Business Growth
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Underwriting Specialist to join our team in Central Pennsylvania or Maryland. As a senior underwriting expert, you will lead the evaluation and underwriting of new and renewal business, develop advanced risk assessment models, and foster strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the underwriting process for complex accounts, ensuring alignment with company guidelines and risk appetite.
Design and implement advanced risk assessment models to inform coverage, pricing, and terms decisions.
Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to gather information and provide expert guidance.
Analyze supplementary reports and screenings to support underwriting decisions and ensure compliance with regulations.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers, driving business growth and retention.
Communicate underwriting strategies and decisions to internal teams, agents, and brokers, and monitor industry trends and market conditions.
Evaluate complex policy renewals and modifications, identifying opportunities for policy enhancements and risk mitigation.
Coach and develop staff, and participate in talent selection, development, and performance management decisions.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field, with a minimum of 13 years of experience in Underwriting or a related field.
Professional designations, such as AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, or ARM, are preferred.
Expert knowledge of company policies, industry laws, and regulations, with advanced analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and make informed decisions.
