Senior PHP Developer / Application Stabilization Lead

High-Level Project Summary (PHP + MySQL Application) 1. Project Overview We have an existing but incomplete web application developed using PHP and MySQL. The application is already partially functional but not production-ready. Development was started by a vendor, and the codebase now requires completion, stabilization, and structured handover. The objective is to finish the application, fix existing bugs, improve reliability, and ensure it aligns with the original functional intent. ________________________________________ 2. Current Status •Core application structure exists • Database schema is available (MySQL) • Several modules are partially implemented • There are known and unknown bugs • Code quality and documentation are inconsistent • No proper end-to-end testing has been completed • Some features may work in isolation but fail in real workflows ________________________________________ 3. Key Challenges • Incomplete features with unclear edge-case handling • Bug fixing and debugging required across multiple modules • Understanding legacy vendor code before extending it • Lack of proper documentation and technical ownership • Need to coordinate with the original vendor/developer for clarifications ________________________________________ 4. Scope of Work (High Level) The person taking this on will be expected to: 1. Review & understand the existing codebase o PHP application logic o MySQL database structure o Configuration and deployment setup 2. Identify gaps o What is incomplete vs complete o What is buggy vs stable o What was intended vs what is implemented 3. Fix bugs o Functional issues o Data inconsistencies o Performance or logic errors 4. Complete pending features o Finish partially implemented modules o Ensure workflows work end-to-end 5. Coordinate with the existing vendor o Clarify design intent o Resolve ambiguity in requirements o Avoid re-building what already exists 6. Stabilize the application o Improve error handling o Add basic validations o Ensure production readiness 7. Provide handover o Clean explanations of fixes and changes o Basic documentation for future maintenance ________________________________________ 5. Expectations from the Developer • Ability to work with legacy PHP code • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills • Comfortable reading and fixing existing code, not just writing new code • Can act as a technical bridge between business and the original vendor • Communicates clearly and documents decisions ________________________________________ 6.
