As the Senior Director of Reddit’s Core Experiences you will lead the organization responsible for Reddit’s core product. The team’s mission is to empower people to participate in conversations through communities. The team builds cohesive and modern experience across all of Reddit’s platforms. The Core Experience drives Reddit’s core loop of user value. This team is responsible for Reddit’s core consumer experiences across all platforms. It builds features that encourage engagement and belonging, enabling better user experiences with rich content and video, enabling smooth and effective content consumption with ML and personalized experiences. This includes high quality contributions which is the heart of all of Reddit’s experiences – enabling users to express their true selves through varied content types like posts, comments, video threads, and profiles. This team drives core product metrics for the entire Reddit ecosystem. This is a high impact high visibility role where you will be involved in technical & product strategy, operations, architecture, and execution for one of the largest sites in the world. How You’ll have an Impact: You will partner with a cross functional of stakeholders to understand Reddit’s core experiences across all of our product lines and will guide the design and development of experiences that are fun and exciting for users, elevating the posting and commenting experience. You will be a key driver of the contribution vision, owning and driving the product and technical roadmaps. You will drive a culture of technical excellence ensuring we build quality products and service. You will be accountable for scaling and mentoring your team to help Reddit reach its goal of bringing community and belonging to everyone. The Senior Director of Engineering should be passionate about an environment where technology is the key value driver for the business while partnering closely with a broad set of stakeholders. The right individual will be experienced in scaling large technology teams and creating and delivering great product experiences across a large international user base. This individual will be a key driver in the planning, development, and implementation of Reddit’s composite service architecture, and technology stack on the various platforms including desktop, mobile, and native applications (iOS and Android). Provide mentorship and growth opportunities for team members and leaders to evolve in their roles. • A hands-on technology leader who has expertise building high-traffic high-scale consumer systems. Challenge our technical stacks to always improve, utilizing the cutting edge to stay competitive. • Set and support an outcome driven culture that balances quality Who You Might Be: • 9+ years of experience of managing teams of software and product engineers. • 12+ years of experience developing internet-scale software, preferably in mobile native roles with enough backend distributed systems exposure. • Track record of assembling high functioning organizations bolstered by strong organization processes. • Strong ability to identify the correct priorities and ensure projects are kept on-track and on-mission. • BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience. • Strong focus on user experience and usability. You are an undying advocate for the user, and you have a deep intuition for how people think and how they interact with software. Experience with social or e-commerce is a huge plus. • Entrepreneurial spirit. You must be self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action. You live to build new things and thrive in ambiguity. • Excellent communication skills. You must be able to collaborate with teams in a fully remote environment, and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences • Experienced at driving technical excellence for high scale high performance platforms and products.
