SDA Satellite Flight Software SME

Remote Full-time
About the position

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Satellite Flight Software Subject Matter Expert (SME) to fill a SETA (Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance) position with the Space Development Agency (SDA). The SDA is revolutionizing the Department of Defense's acquisition cycle by delivering a new tranche of hundreds of satellites every two years. This fast-paced organization is changing the way that the DoD acquires space systems by building the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA). The PWSA consists of satellites produced by multiple vendors, each responsible for creating their own ground system to command and control their vehicles. As a Satellite Flight Software SME, you will oversee the design, development, integration, and testing of the flight software systems for individual spacecraft vendors, including software for both the bus and payloads. You will work closely with these vendors to aid in their development processes and resolve any flight software concerns. This position is primarily based in Chantilly, VA, but remote and/or hybrid arrangements may be possible, with a preference for candidates located near one of the spacecraft vendor facilities in Denver, CO, or Los Angeles, CA. In this role, you will apply your knowledge and expertise to ensure the successful development of flight software systems. You will provide subject matter expertise to support the development of flight software for SDA's spacecraft vendors, advising on software development practices, compliance with requirements, and operational utility. Your essential job functions will include overseeing the development of flight software systems, creating and understanding use cases, evaluating verification evidence for compliance, participating in agile development processes, assisting test teams, and delivering progress reports to SDA leadership.
