Work ShiftDayScheduled Weekly Hours40SummaryThis position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing coordination activities related to patient scheduling and performing tasks and support functions under the supervision of a licensed nurse.Job DescriptionJob DutiesPlaces, receives and handles telephone communications with patients and staff courteously, accurately and timelyCoordinates scheduling patientsHandles various duties such as mailings, data entry, preparing data for information/procedural packetsOrganizes and prioritizes daily work effectivelyNavigates the electronic medical record efficiently, orders procedures and locates documentation as necessaryPromotes a positive and professional image, collaborates with health team including physicians, nurses, and discharge patientsFollows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.Department Specific DutiesPatient Access:Documents telephone encounters in the electronic medical record to communicate critical information to physicians and staffWorks as effective team member by participating in morning huddles, team meetings, remote and on-site trainingUtilizes computer systems to run requested reports for physicians, administration and quality initiativesDemonstrates flexibility and willingness to learn with changes in the roles as department develops to include additional Preventative Screening scheduling opportunitiesCompletes medical records review to determine patient eligibility for preventative screening and notes entry in an accurate and timely fashion in the medical recordPractices continuous improvement of identification and resolution of patient barriers to careDemonstrates continuous improvement of communication skills with patients regarding health promotion and disease prevention through preventative screeningEnters medication orders per the direction of the physician in the electronic medical recordUtilizes computer systems to run requested reports for physicians, administration and quality initiatives.Reviews and updates procedural schedules dailyTracks productivity/schedules and compiles relevant data onto Excel spreadsheetsConsistently meets departmental productivity standardsResponds to real/potential problems based on urgency related to procedural scheduleRefers conflicts and procedural questions to the Manager or SupervisorKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrates exemplary customer service skills both verbally and non-verbally in person and on the phoneCoordinates scheduling of patients for overdue screening serviceWorks as effective team member by participating in morning huddles, team meetings, remote and on-site learningHandles multiple priorities in a distracting environmentAbility to work in close proximity to othersManages anger/fear/hostilityProfessional ExperienceTwo years health care/clinical, customer service and/or secretarial experience preferredStrong computer skills requiredEducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMedical Assisting Diploma, or Associate of Applied Science Degree preferredMedical Terminology strongly preferredLicensure, Certification, RegistrationAmerican Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required within 6 months of hire.
