Visitation Catholic School is seeking an interim K-8 Music Teacher for the remainder of the 2023 - 2024 academic year. Qualified candidates are dedicated, energetic professionals with at least a bachelor's degree in elementary or music education and a valid teaching certificate. This role serves as a specialist teacher providing general music class on a rotating schedule. In addition, the music teacher plans, prepares and co-leads music for school mass on a weekly basis, plans and leads 2 music programs, and coordinates with other staff members for special events that include music.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters
Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing music lesson plans designed to implement diocesan curriculum standards
Use appropriate materials and resources for students to engage in learning K - 8th grade
Include repertoire of diverse types of music literature, traditional and contemporary, that are effective instructional methods according to professional best practice
Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to evaluate each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance, individually or in a group
Differentiate music curriculum to respond to individual learning needs
Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
Develop music programs for Christmas (K-4) and Spring (5th-8th) programs and conduct student performances
Maintain current and accurate records
Practice positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom establishing an orderly, productive environment during classes, rehearsals, and music performances
Contact parents when necessary for student academic or behavioral concerns
Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students, and conference with parents upon request, responding to messages in a timely manner
Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned equipment, musical instruments & music
Meet staff development guidelines for the diocese and the State of Missouri
Demonstrate professional work habits by regular attendance, respecting schedules and deadlines, organizing work, and conducting assigned tasks in an effective manner
Serve on committees and perform other duties as assigned
Collaborate with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
Demonstrate gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals
Attend school-wide functions and special events as required
Cooperate with staff in providing music performances for prayer services, first communion, stations of the cross, DARE Graduation
Prepare and co-direct student choir (optional student extracurricular) at weekly school mass and monthly weekend mass
Prepare and plan music for Catholic school masses with church liturgist
Maintain professionalism in dress and hygiene
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
Ability to manage student behavior in classroom setting
Ability to motivate and engage students in the learning process
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Skill in pacing and differentiating instruction
Ability to use appropriate technology including computer, smart board, projector, handheld devices, etc.

Bachelor's Degree in Education or Music Education minimum, Master's preferred
Teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement
Ideal candidate has 3 years teaching experience minimum
Ideal candidate has experience in Catholic education
