[Remote] Software Development Engineer, AI

They are seeking a Software Development Engineer to assist in the design and implementation of AI applications and enhance existing open-source products.ResponsibilitiesAssist in the design implementation of human-in-the-loop AI applications that leverage large language models (LLMs), vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniquesBuild your skills with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and Postgres to enhance our existing open-source products on AWSRapidly learn new domains and apply AI and machine learning methods to enhance campaign and civic technology productsConduct structured experimentation to diagnose problems, validate solutions, and communicate findings effectivelyEvaluate emerging AI frameworks and tools (including MCP and agentic systems) for integration into production environmentsInitially reports to the CTOSkills1-3 years of experience in software developmentStrong technical training in computer science or engineeringDemonstrated passion for LLM integration in web, mobile, and backend systemsExperience with prompt engineering, RAG workflows, and agentic AI systemsPractical experience as an intern or junior engineer using scrum and githubExperience with cloud infrastructureCommitment to responsible and ethical AI developmentAwareness of model limitations, bias, and performance considerationsEffective collaboration skills to work cross-functionallyAbility to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiencesExperience building or scaling AI functions in prior rolesExperience as a full stack developer with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and PostgresDemonstrated domain expertise by achievement of a relevant secondary degreePrior experience as a contributor to an open-source projectExperience studying, working, or volunteering in politics, civics, or democracy reformBenefits100% coverage of health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your dependents.Unlimited PTO (sick and vacation) policy.401(k) program available so you can contribute toward retirement savings (no employer match).Individual learning & development budget to fund your growth.Workspace setup stipend.$50/month to help with your internet and other expenses.Company OverviewEmpowering Independents to run, win & serve.
