The Faith to Faithless service is led by apostates themselves, who have knowledge and experiences of apostate communities facing serious and systemic issues. These issues range from emotional and physical abuse from family members, friends, and peers in their community through homelessness, shunning, Âhonour-based abuse and killings, and
systemic failures by statutory organisations to support apostates.
Faith to Faithless engages in several activities, over three main areas of work:
 We provide a platform for apostate voices to be heard, and raise awareness of the issues they face so that others donÂt suffer in the same ways, ensuring we have built trust within the apostate community. We do this both online, through our dedicated website, and through speaker and panel events that are open to the public
 We provide an apostate support programme through facilitated peer support groups and other Âmeet-upsÂ
 We train statutory and support organisations like police, social services, and mental health organisations to better understand the issues apostates face, and the sorts of policy and practice implications this might have for the organisation.
Our work has brought us into contact with tens of thousands of apostates, and we have been able to directly support over a thousand since the dedicated programme started.
After launching our dedicated helpline for the ex-religious, we have found that we are receiving a growing number of people registering for peer support. As a result we are expanding our volunteer team.
What is a Safety Chat Facilitator?
When a person contacts us and says they would like to attend an event of ours, they fill in a registration form and then they will have a ÂSafety ChatÂ. This is an informal online video chat with a member of staff or a trained volunteer. The Safety Chat Facilitator will explain how the services work and answer any questions the applicant may have. It is also an opportunity to make sure we are keeping the service safe for all of our service users. You will be checking to see if the person is appropriate for our services, and that our services are appropriate for them.
The Safety Chat Facilitators engage in the most important role within Faith to Faithless. They are the first point of contact for all of our service users, and they may well be the first person that an ex-religious person has ever spoken to about leaving religion. These conversations can be emotionally challenging due to discussing difficulties experienced when leaving religion, but they tend to be quite joyful too, as the ex-religious person is learning that there is a whole community of support available and friends to be made.
