[Remote] Intellectual Property Lawyer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Legal.io is a leading global airline seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Counsel to support its in-house legal team on a part-time contract basis. The role focuses on a broad range of IP matters, including commercial transactions, patent strategy, and copyright issues, supporting innovation initiatives across a worldwide enterprise.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Advise on a wide variety of global IP matters, including commercial, licensing, patent, and copyright issues
ā¢ Provide practical, business-focused IP counseling to internal stakeholders across multiple functions
ā¢ Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with IP and technology components, collaborating closely with commercial counsel on software, consulting, and services agreements
ā¢ Support the identification of patentable innovations and work directly with inventors to pursue patent protection
ā¢ Manage and maintain domestic and international patent portfolios
ā¢ Assist in developing and executing IP strategies aligned with company innovation and business objectives
Skills
ā¢ Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
ā¢ Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar (no specific jurisdiction required)
ā¢ Minimum 7+ years of legal experience, with intellectual property as a primary practice area
ā¢ Strong background in IP issues within commercial transactions
ā¢ Experience identifying patentable inventions and managing patent portfolios
ā¢ Ability to deliver clear, pragmatic legal guidance to business partners
ā¢ Comfort working independently in a remote, part-time capacity
ā¢ Strong collaboration skills across legal, technical, and commercial teams
ā¢ Prior in-house and law firm experience strongly preferred
