Remote Contract Medical Biller & Credentialing Specialist (AthenaOne / Endocrinology / Texas Payers)

Job Summary We are a busy, physician-owned endocrinology practice seeking an experienced U.S.-based remote Medical Biller & Credentialing Specialist. • This is a contract (1099) position — individual applicants only (no billing companies or agencies). • You will oversee claim denials, appeals, and credentialing tasks for a high-volume endocrinology group using AthenaOne. • Experience with Texas payers is strongly preferred. Responsibilities • Manage claim denials, underpayments, and rejections across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payers. • Prepare and submit appeals with appropriate documentation and follow through to resolution. • Maintain and update provider credentialing (CAQH, PECOS, NPPES, payer portals). • Work in AthenaOne for claim submission, status tracking, and reconciliation. • Review and reconcile EOBs, remittance advices, and clearinghouse reports. • Communicate with payers and internal staff to resolve claim or credentialing issues. • Provide performance reports (denial trends, AR aging, appeal outcomes). • Ensure HIPAA compliance and maintain a secure remote work environment. Qualifications • Must reside in the United States (no offshore candidates). • Minimum 5 years of medical billing experience, preferably in endocrinology or internal medicine. • AthenaOne billing/EHR experience required. • Strong knowledge of Texas payers (BCBSTX, Superior, Molina, UnitedHealthcare, etc.). • Proven expertise in denial management, appeals, and credentialing. • Familiar with CAQH, PECOS, and NPPES processes. • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently. • Must have a HIPAA-compliant home office setup (private workspace, secure computer, and high-speed internet). Contract Terms • Independent contractor (1099) • Remote / Flexible hours, must be available during standard business hours for payor calls and internal communication.
